Joint Canon and Nikon users

I have recently noticed, several photographers seem to own both Canon and Nikon bodies. Curious as to the reasons. Is it due to a switch/upgrade, or to have a wider choice of the best lenses available, or something else?

My guess would be lens choice. Personally, I have often considered swapping from Canon to Nikon just to lose the silly white lenses. Why can't Canon make a black version of the 70-200 F/2.8 IS II?

I have both Canon and Nikon, although my Canon gear is manual focus and my Nikon is a DSLR, so I'm guessing that's not what the OP was referring to.

As a guess it would be for specific lenses like f1.2 canon lenses. I can't see many pros having a full Nikon and Canon kit though

I bought a Canon purely to use the MP-E 65.

Having used the 50D for a while now I must admit I am starting to prefer it to my K-5 even though the Pentax is better in almost every respect.

I am contemplating getting a 5Dmk2 for the video and keep the D700 for stills, best of both worlds.

Just waiting to see what happens with the new nikon range first.

Nikon has wideangles that actually work? Canon I believe has an edge with teles and L primes.

I'd add a Nikon to my bag, just can't quite justify the mega expense at the moment.
