Jquery for galleries

Hi Guys,

I'm guessing most of you have a website with your portfolio on, maybe using a lightbox or even flash.

If your looking to get your website re-designed/built check out jquery slider(this might be old hat here so sorry if it is).
 
there's loads of good jQuery gallery plugins, but a word of warning if you have a complicated site they can be quite resource intensive and can slow your site down considerably, if you know jQuery you can usually code one yourself without all the fancy options in a few lines of code
 
not really Karlos, if you need a gallery, out of jquery, lightbox or flash id go jquery everytime, as its the lighter one to use. Why do you think facebook, google, bbc, wordpress etc use it over the standard javascript way (which lightbox is in).

I think you've misunderstood my point, I was only advocating writing your own jQuery gallery script if you have a already complicated site, definitely wasn't saying use flash :nono:

I'm with you on the jQuery thing - I use it nearly every day!
 
I'm just starting to use jquery and quite like it.

I've tried using thickbox, colorbox and a portfolio slider.

The portfolio slider is quite cool. If you want to see it go to my website :):

Sorry Karlos, and your right if you can hand code it, its alot better.

Checked it out Thomas nice, off the point but I like the use of flares on the car.
 
Depending on how it is used, jQuery can end up a LOT more CPU intensive compared to flash for graphical effects.
It all depends on how well it's coded, and what's being done with it.

Also, different browsers run javascript more efficiently than others. Opera 10.5 beta for example is the fastest on the market, wheras IE7 (predictably) runs like a 1 legged dog.
