Just bought a power mac G5 with no hard drive in it

I've just bought a powermac G5 with no hard drive for what I thought was a good price until I looked inside it, on ringing them up they said they took the hd out and hit it with a hammer because it had company data on it which is fair enough I suppose.

Question is what hd would fit in it and what would it cost.

According to the limited information I have gleamed from the serial number it may be a 2 ghz dual core processor, it has 6 sticks of ram in it, one I pulled out says 256mb on it and looks different from the 4 that look to have come with it when new

Because the sold it without a hd I can get my money back but I'm curious to see what it runs like

Which os would it run on.
 
Any Sata drive should be ok and it will run Leopard or Tiger (10.5 or 10.4). Snow Leopard and Lion both require Intel processors so are out of the question.

Ok thanks, I'll look out for a cheap HD

If I find an OEM one with a OS on it would that be legal
 
Probably not.

However I did find a Power PC OS X Tiger retail disc the other day. I don't have a Power PC Mac any more, so of you cover the postage you can have it. As it is the retail disc license shouldn't be an issue.
 
I'd have expected it to come with an HD and booted as a minimum. I'd send it back and get your money back. They could have put another HD in or wiped the existing one properly.

I've got a defunct bt vision box so I'm going to see if it's got a sata hd in it

For £50 I'm not arguing , it's that heavy I could probably weigh it in for that if it doesn't work :lol:
