Just gone out and bought an UWA lens. This is something I hadn't really considered that I would need in my arsenal, but the 17-55 just wasn't wide enough at times. So.......... reserved the EF-S 10-20mm in Jessops and went to pick it up today.

While I was there having a look around the Sigma 10-20 is there at so much less in £££'s.

So, I have bitten the bullet and bought my first ever non Canon lens. I am aprehensive, but figure if I'm not happy with it I just return it to Jessops and buy the Canon - Nothing lost right, but everything gained if I like it and it's a goodun'

Just need to have a little play now! Hope it's OK :bat:

Do you mean you reserved the ef-s 10-22?

From all the reviews I've read, and people's experiences, the Canon version is a tiny bit sharper, but nowhere near enough to warrant the price difference! I've seen some absolutely amazing shots from the Sigma 10-20, so I honestly don't think you need to worry! Non-Canon lenses are often viewed with fear, it's a bit unnecessary really! Enjoy your new lens, I'm looking at adding one to my line-up in the near future too!

I owned the 10-20 until recently and it was an excellent UWA..I would suggest you check it thoroughly though as it took me 3 copies to get a good one, the first too suffered quite bad de-centering/softness on the L/H side.

I recently sold mine as I wasn't using it nearly as much as expected, didn't suit my own personal "style" of landscape photography - still a great lens

What's the best and easiest way to test it? I was just going to get out there and see what I got!

Thats what I do. If it looks good on the screen / printed why the **** pixel-peep .

Spend the money you've saved on a weeks holiday somewhere nice & landscapey ;)

Just recently picked one up myself no probs at all with it, I think it harder now to get a bad copy of the 10-20mm as it been on the market for a good while now, and any problems with the earlier models should be sorted out.

First pic with it

It worth doing the "brick wall" test on a tripod..not perfect by any means but you'll see immediately if your lens has any issues, my first 2 were pretty bad, it was very obvious in an A4 print. The last copy I had when "pixel-peeped" looked a little soft in the corners but this is a non-issue, it wasn't noticeable in prints up to 18 x 12 inches

Don't worry about doing tests, most of them are fairly flawed in some way or another! Just get out, and get loads of shots with it! Even in the left third is ever-so-slightly softer than the right third when at 11.5mm and f/32 when viewed at 100%, if it doesn't show up in you pictures it doesn't matter!

I had a Sigma 14mm and it was OK most of the time, but flare across the front element was a lot worse than the Nikon equivalent - as long as you were aware of it though it was fine...considering the amount of times it got used anyway...i.e NOT very often...
