Yes
After searching high and low for a place to rent i managed to get a good deal on renting a room on a secure industrial estate. It has a roller shutter door so that i can do fashion shoots on my Lambretta or superbike. Pics will follow in due course but this is how i have got it looking as of now. What do you think?

it looks very professional i also had the idea about the rollers as when i need one you just have to roll it down and its that simple. you should upload some portraits when you've used it as i would be intriguided with the results.

Could you do this in your house or flat? Obvious benefit of doing it with a roller-shutter on an industrial estate is access for certain things but was thinking of setting up my own "portrait corner".

tbh cant see why not am hoping to split my computer room into a studio (will mean losing the couch etc but might be worth it).

I did consider the house but it takes up more space than you think. The model needs to be at least 6ft away from the background then there is the distance between you and the model to consider. Once the light stands are setup and the legs spread out the room does start shrinking. Obviously it depends on the size of your room but i really struggled at home and i am glad that i managed to rent somewhere.

Very nice :)

Looks great for a single subject, but when you get a group in there or the scooter etc, you'll start running out of space. But that's nothing you can't fix with an infinity curve and an Octa Lightbank.

I bumped into a shoot this week where they had two Octas and the light was just fabulous. Portrait with a car though.

If those are D-Lites, they tend to overheat with softboxes when you push them along. Switch the modelling bulb off!

Good luck!

Yes i have just purchased a Rotalux 100cm Octa softbox. If the D lites start to struggle i might go for the Elinchrom BXRi 500w lights. Thanks for the tip about the modelling light! I purchased another 12 rolls of different background paper in nice bright colours so will post picks of the shoots over the next few weeks.
Im' glad most of you are impressed with it. If any of you are close to Coventry feel free to pop in for a look.

seems like a good set up with plenty of room. What facilities have you there, i.e. kitchen, changing room ?

I have just got a 'kettle and cups' set up at the moment. There is a small area to change so it will do for now. Rent is all in and really cheap so im' not complaining. I should be putting the lights through their paces next week so will try and get a few images uploaded. Im' just glad to be getting things rolling....

Looks good Deano, wish I had access to a space like that. Would you mind me asking who much rent is on a place like that?

Hi Their, studio looks good, lack of height could be a problem for downlighting ? Also why did you put it in a corner or is there not much space on the left ? Are you thinking of hiring it out ?

Mmm...lack of height? The height from ceiling to floor is around 16 feet. Not sure what you mean by downlighting as there is plenty of height to use a light on a boom stand if need be.

Put in the corner?....thats the room for you!..You will find there are another three corners to go with that one if you get my drift.

I dont think i will hire it out as its more for personal work and projects etc...

Very nice set up. I like that last shot. Wouldn't mind having a go at this also. I bet there are a few units available at the moment with things being how they are.

Kev.

Quick tip, if you're going to put anything shiny in there like a car, the rafters will reflect in the paintwork in some lighting situations.

Ceiling reflections can be annoying, but regular linear ones like the ones you have can be used to good effect.

How much are you paying for that space (ish, if you don't mind telling people) and what are the dimensions ?

Might be useful for people to know if they fancy getting together and hiring one as a collective :)
