The light makes the first image. The second might look good much larger, but doesn't convey anything much at this size - don't forget that photography is about communication, and the viewer needs to see what they are supposed to be understanding.

I struggle with this type of shot. The first shot works very well the second is cluttered and shows it's what you leave out that is important.
