Hi, my name is Sarah,
Although i love photography i really dont understand much about the technical side of things. I need to change an image from 33kb to at least 1mb, how do i do this? Thankyou for your help:)

33kb is a pretty crappy file size and I'd be very surprised to see anything decent come out of making it 1mb. But I'm willing to be surprised.

In any case, you're going to need something like Photoshop to try. I don't know if Photoshop Elements will do it, or Paintshop. You could try persuading somebody here who may be gifted in performing the required magic.

Hi, thanks for replies.
I was going to send a picture to my local news paper but they have told me i require a 1mb and my photo is 33kb, like i said in my post i have no understanding of this!

33kb is about a third the size of 1mb (1024kb).. if you try to make the picture bigger it will lose quality..too much.. the paper arnt actualy asking you to change the picture size.. they are presuming you have an original thats bigger and they want that.. if you havent then you need to go back and tell them thats the largest size you have.

Sorry...but no it isn't! It's a 30th. Ish.

I suspect the OP is selling an image taken on an old mobile phone to the newspaper - it's going to be tricky to make it big enough without it looking really, really bad.

Hi Sarah.

What did you take the picture using? If it was a mobile phone look and see if you still have the original file - most of todays mobile phones will be capable of producing 1mb+ pictures.

If it was a camera you used - did you crop the original image a lot? Send them the original and let them decide if they can still retain enough detail.

Thankyou so much for your help,
I took a beautiful picture of the sunrise featuring a Bristol Land mark as such. I have an Olympus E500, i love my camera but as for the technical side of things i`m afraid i`m a bit "dim"!
I think i may have found the original and have sent them that, its for a feature they post showing local photographers views. This is the first time i have been brave enough to send anything to them and they loved it!! Well fingers crossed they are happy now with what i have sent them, once again a very big thankyou to all of you x

Hi all,
Great news they printed my picture yesterday (13 july) in the evening post and the western daily press, am so pleased, thanks again for all your help
Sarah

m stands for milli (and metre) = thousandth e.g. 1 mm x 1000 = 1 m

M stands for million (and 1024x1024 for binary boffins in the decimal universe).

It's left as an exercise for the reader to determine the differences between b and B; and k and K.

So, all together now, MB not mb.

Whoever heard of a millibit?

Oh, and congrats.

Congratulations on being published! :)

I didn't see the paper (never normally buy the Evening Post unless I know there's something in there that I want to read). Was it of the suspension bridge?
