Keeping it clean ?

Yes
Just wondering what you do to keep your camera bodies and lenses clean - I don't mean the sensor or the glass, I mean the outside of your gear.
It is not something I would generally worry about, but having spent a few hours at a motorbike trials event, I got mud splashes all over my brand new 5d2, then got looking at my other gear and noticed that it too is looking slightly less than new...
It little more than sweat, rain and mud, but I have never seen it mentioned here, so so many of you seem to sell such shiny-looking gear that either you don't use it, or you must spend some time cleaning it off - washing machine maybe, or just the jet-wash ??

Don't worry about it - you are using your cameras - people who sell 'shiny-looking gear' are collectors!!

Ah, but if you read between the lines, having bought a new camera I might want to sell an old one at some stage - I didn't mention that I also bought a new lens that I already had covered, so may be selling a lens soon too....

I actually like my gear to look less-than-new, as it isn't so attractive to anyone looking to relieve me of it !

My bodies and lenses still have half the African bush all over them... I actually quite like them looking "used" rather than super shiny ;)

me too - sadly not a lot of african bush where I am! :( - so they still look far too shiny - two years in! :)

I think Arkady uses a toothbrush and a damp cloth when cleaning his stuff in Afghanistan.

Well, I have a toothbrush, but cannot book a ticket to Afghanistan for love nor money...

What might one use in Cornwall ?

I use a nice fluffy microfibre and a few squirts of Aerospace 303 - if there are any car detailers on here they'll know it.

Makes the camera/lens bodies and rubber parts look like brand new and keeps them looking fresh for ages...

I just give my kit a wipe over with a damp towel then dry it off with a microfibre cloth.

Have to say that in my case thats twaddle :D I use my kit but also like to keep it in tip top condition.

I sold a 40D last year with 20K shots, not a lot I know but not bad for one year. The guy I sold it to thought it was brand new.

Pride in my kit and care for the hundreds of pounds I've shelled out in my case. :D

I always keep my camera and lenses in the bag so that they will be clean when I sell them.

:D:D

I use baby wipes for my cameras and lenses, also for cleaning the PC monitor.

I had never considered using 303. I just ensure my hands are clean before picking up my camera and keep it covered at times when it may get dirty. Its always easier to keep it clean than to clean it afterwards. I have 2 costco microfibre cloths (another detailer tool) in my camera bag to cover my cameras if needed.

I am looking at making 1 possibly 2 covers for my camera out of some gortex material a bit like the canon covers. My mum is good with a sewing machine.

I'd probably clean mine with isopropyl alcohol if it ever gets dirty. Also have a pack of 12 microfiber cloths that i can use and throw away.
