i was only young when i watched him play for the reds , too small to climb out of the boys pen into the KOP, but i remember being really upset when he left, he was getting the p*** ripped out of him along the lines of who does he think he is one of the Beatles but it was all in jest, a sad day for football not just for Liverpool and Newcastle fans

I true superstar, in many senses of the word.

Played for Scunthorpe, Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle. Managed Newcastle, Fulham, Man City and England.

Most successful with Liverpool honours wise, but moving to Hamburg brought him a German title, and individual honours with successive Ballon D'Or's. Not many British players have won that. May have been a European bias there considering what he did with Liverpool.

Everyone says he was a great chap, which is a nice thing to leave behind.

Kevin lived in Cilcain when he played for Liverpool. I met him a couple of times when we were shooting/beating in the same group. Seemed a nice bloke and remember him saying even if he did get anything, rabbit/pheasant/etc, his wife had told him don't bring anything home.
