I am getting back into the swing of uploading to alamy and also sorting out my own photos and I am really struggling with keywords.

I can do the basics, what is in the image etc...but when it comes to anything more it just takes me ages. Does anyone have any useful tips? I am tempted to try some sort of thesaurus to give me more words for the keywords I already have, but that wont be overly fast or helpful in some instances.

Does anyone know of any software out there you can use to build keyword lists or that will suggest more keywords from the basics?

What about Google's own keyword tool? Handy because it gives you an 'indication' of search volumes for similar terms.

I know the feeling Tom, you just know there should be more added but can't think what.

Now there is the expensive solution of buying a keyword set like the Controlled Vocabulary Keyword Catalogue at $69.99 for approximately 11,000 terms organized in a hierarchical structure.

There are also sets for subject like Birds, Fish, Mammals, and so on which will give you a nice list of Latin names for each species.

If you want to define a long list of keywords, it is easier to create a file of keywords in a word processor and then import that file, just a mater of the structure and thinking of the words you'll want, then importing the file into Bridge/ Aperture/Lightroom

I had a look round when building my keyword list, and to be honest you really can go to town if you wish, once you start looking at other lists it gets easier to add all sort of stuff to your list. The Controlled Vocabulary site is well worth a read for the keyword geek, and it will let you look at other list such as those used by the United States Library of Congress

Thanks for the help guys. I am building my own little basic list now, just good alternate words etc, tried Google's Keyword thingy and it was just too vague....think I am just going to have to get used to do it and hopefully the words will stick in my head for future use :|
