Hi,

Got my dslr, read the manual, got my 11 month old son.

Anyone got any tips on how to get some great shots. Best tips I've had so far are

Give him space
Take shots from above so eyes look bigger
Get outside (parks etc)
Blur the background to make him stand out
Borrow another kid!
Use mum to act like a monkey to make him laugh ( makes me laugh too !!)

Anyone else got any more?

dont make him doing anything.. just let him get on with it and take snaps along the way...

my son is 2 and a half and ive been doing this since he was 6 months old and ive never managed to 'make' smile or anything.. all the best pics of ive got of him are just him at play or when he is not knowing im there.

Get down low on the ground, on his level. And be on your guard for the lens-grab.

Thansk for the tips guys - I shall try and get low, stick on a filter and try to capture him naturally and see how that goes

In total agreement.

Chidren are magical - their expressions change in an instant providing the photographer with unlimited opportunities.

My tips?

Use continuous shooting when you want to capture a specil instant- if you only have a camera which will only take 4-5 shots in RAW switch to Large JPEGS - on my 450D I can only get about 4-6 shots in RAW and almost 20 in Large JPEG.

Get down to their level if possible.

If necessary use high ISO - noise matters less than getting a good shot.

And - thank heaven for little children and the photo opportunities they give us.

Tips? Continuous shooting and AI servo AF mode! My littleun is only slightly younger and is so fast its difficult to keep up. Aim to focus on the eye and shoot away!
