I have just been tinkering with the monitor off my base unit that went belly up, I have it plugged into my laptop and at the moment it has both the same images on each screen of my desktop. Is there a way I can keep my laptop screen for say just using it online and a way of the external lcd to have a program like lightroom3 running and working independently of each other.

Lightroom will let you use a second monitor as a preview screen so you could use it for that.

Provided your video system allows multiple monitors to expand your desktop, you could arrange things so that you have you browser on one section of the desktop, and Lightroom on another, but it's down to the video card in the laptop.

You need to look in the video set up options of the card to see if it's possible. You can do this on most modern MacBooks, but some windows laptops have video chips that are used will only support one screen. The external option only mirrors the laptop.

Thanks John, I have managed to do that, it will take a bit of getting used to :-)
