My daughter has just moved back home and said her laptop isnt working properly. It starts up but i get a few alerts coming up. It wont connect to the internet. She said a few of her friends tried to fix and she doesnt know whats happened to it since then.

One error showing is the following-

Windows Internet Explorer
" this.mRequest" is null or not an object line.101
misp:McRegUpd.dll:chk _update.htm/

The laptop is on Vista home basic but she cant find a disc for it( may have came pre-installed )Laptop is a Packard Bell.

Anyone able to help.

McRegUpd.dll is part of the McAfee security software, its the part that checks for updates.
It could be that this is falling over because it can't get to the internet to check for updates. In other words could be a side effect of the problem, rather than the problem itself.

In any case I'd dump it - uninstall it from Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs along with any other security software that is on the machine. This will remove any barriers that software is putting in place on the net connection.

Are you trying to connect wirelessly or via a wired connection ?
What other errors are you seeing ?
Go to control panel -> Administrative Functions -> Event Viewers and look in the system log, red circles with crosses in them are bad, lets see what they are.
