Laptop Keeps freezing even after re-install... confused.

TP friends, i am in dire need of help! :)


About a week or so ago my laptop went mad ( to cut a long story short ). Every time i clicked on the start menu, opened a webpage or clicked on a file it would freeze , unfreeze after 5 minutes and then.... ye freeze.

So it kept freezing, and at times when i tried booting it, i would be faced with a useless black screen.

Thank the lord, i managed to find my recovery disk and started a " full destructive recovery " using the built in Repair Environment ( re-install basically ).

So now that i'd re-installed it, here was me thinking everything would be hunky-dory. Ofcourse, it is not.


Already , even after a few days it is showing signs of freezing up again. I'm scared to click too fast or open too many apps incase it bombs out on me. With 4GB RAM and a 2.1 GHZ Processor , freezing up should be the last thing to happen...


I have tried virus scans etc, used ccleaner's registry fixer aswell but i can't seem to find the issue.


I'm really stuck, and would appreciate all help

Doesn't seem to happen in safe mode which suggests it some kind of windows 7 problem and not hardware?

Have you installed any new software recently?
have you installed any new hardware recently?
My HTC phone and docking station have a similar effect to what you describe on my lappy when plugged in!

It was freezing before the re-install ( hence why i re-installed )

Even after the re-install , ( before i installed any anti-virus or anything ) it was freezing all over the shop.


I updated the " Mobile Intel 4 series family chipset " driver yesterday, and everything seemed much better, but that only lasted about an hour..

I didn't let it do any updates when i re-installed, to see if it was ok without them. ( it wasn't )

I proceeded to download all 150 odd updates ( including SP1) which didn't make any difference.

Hi, try this download iobit advanced system care, let that do a full system scan, if that fails to remoce whatever you have try manually eliminating processes yourself untill ypu find the culprit
 
Might as well throw out the computer if you're gonna run Iobit Advanced System Care. :thinking:

Try running some tests with Seatools:

ah missed the safe mode works fine bit..

id put a small amount of money on it being driver related then as safe mode loads a restricted set.

download all of your hardware drivers from the laptop manufacturer website and see if that helps.

Inclined to agree. However, the Destructive Install should have put all drivers back to the original state - where they all worked. But agreed on try updating all drivers.

What make is the laptop? Do you have recovery discs, or only the built in recovery partition?

depends if the OP is downloading drivers from MS update and downloading the same suspect driver :)

I'm personally wondering whether the "full destructive recovery" resets the MBR.
 
Hello.

I have a recovery disk that i made when i got it as the built in repair environment ( the manufacturers one ) has dissapeared for some reason.

Just to make things all the merrier, i logged on earlier to be greeted with a million error messages , which were along the lines of " can't read ... system32/.....// this file is either corrupted or lost "

So in that case, nothing would load, hence making it impossible for me to do anything - couldn't access any recovery or anything.

I was forced to re-install it -- YET again.

So here i am, i've just re-installed it.

I haven't downloaded anything apart from the automatic updates, which haven't made anything worse so far.

Although all seems fine just now, i'm certain it'll start freezing up soon.

They don't have any drivers on their website, i hear that this laptop is a re-brand of another ( can't remember which exactly )
 
Not of immediate help but if all else fails it seems that replacement restore disks are available HERE
 
Things are getting completely weird. I received a message about adobe flash player script running slowy, and it asked me if i wanted to abort, so i hit yes.

Next thing i know i have music blaring out of the laptop from no-where, i couldn't stop it, there was no programs or anything open!

It seems so much like a virus but i've scanned with loads of software?
 
It's definitely a virus. ;)

The Master Boot Record is infected with a nasty rootkit as I suspected previously. MBR infections are hard to detect as they operate outside of Windows.

Please expand on this, was the disk made before or after the problems started, and are you able to do a full destructive reinstall with this disk?

I can't really offer proper malware support on this forum, due to the nature of this as an open forum and the risk to the machine with this type of malware.

If you choose to post on one of the forums, locate the Virus/Trojan forum and follow the pre-posting instructions.

I can only personally offer malware removal support on TSF, if you wish to post up logs there I can get back to you fairly promptly.

I would strongly discourage you from following advice outside of the forums listed, or outside of any of the UNITE forums:

Removing this type of malware incorrectly can easily end up with a bricked machine.

If you don't wish to post on any of the above forums, I suggest you call out a local technician and inform them you've been infected.

My local computer guy charges ridiculous rates and he's not exactly brilliant. I live on an Island meaning there's little choice .

I'll make a post on bleeping computer, in which forum do you wish me to post, i see there's a few

EDIT: I made the recovery disk a day or two after buying the laptop :)

I made an account about 100 years ago called " weedom181818 " so i will post under that user name in 5 minutes or so, almost done with the pre-posting.
 
Skip the GMER scan, you have a 64bit system. Just post up the DDS logs.
 
Strange, that's usually what happens with GMER on 64 bit systems. Skip the GMER scan and post up the logs you have for now. I'll get instructions to you shortly after.
 
what virus program have you got , if you have norton ditch it , this progam slows computers . find a different one.

also dont have more than one firewall running this also slows the computer.

Sorry but I don't believe the previous poster is correct. It is more likely one of two things :

1) A faulty hard drive - There are bad sectors on the disk, when the computer tries to read them, it locks up while the drive tries to fetch the data. If the bad sectors are in the swap file space, you're going to see all kinds of weird behaviour if this is the case.

2) A driver problem. Fairly unlikely if you're using drivers from Microsoft Update, but not out of the question.

Either of these is a more likely scenario than having a virus that is causing your computer to freeze. The vast majority of viruses these days are designed to NOT make their presence known to the user, rather they just sit in the background harvesting personal details and/or using your internet connection for junk mail/DDoS attacks.
