Hi Guys

I've managed to entirely mess up my plan for increasing the life span of my current laptop by upgrading. I had all of the part boughts (some twice after a certain courier managed to lose a package...) only to find out that my laptop only takes the old extremely slow hard drives. Damn!. I will be sending the new hard drive and RAM back so now it's time to ponder over my choice of new laptop.

I'm not in much hurry to buy (it's always the wrong time to buy..) but I am beginning to miss having one. Any suggestion would be great, I'm not sure to go for a 'proper' laptop or one of the cheaper netbook things.

Have you looked at getting a desk top.
Bearing in mind that file sizes are only going to get bigger. The more powerful machine will handle them better. Plus it's a lot easier to upgrade a desktop then a laptop.

I've currently got a desktop I'm happy with but a lot of the time I'm not at home at the moment so a laptop would really come in handy. I think I'm leaning towards the netbook machines as they are pretty cheap and although not super-fast should be nippy enough.

I want to leave the budget pretty open ended as I'm not set on anything quite yet. I plan to do internet usage, word processing (the dull stuff) but also have the capability of doing the odd bit of PhotoShop if I can. It won't be used for gaming or anything like that work and Photography only.

I too am looking for a Laptop, budget £300 - 400. I have had a few pointers, but cant decide. Main use will be weekends when I'm at race circuits to download images from my Canon equipment. Needs to have a reasonable screen size as I may want to display images of interest to my cutomers on raceday. I have some brand loyalty towards HP/Compaq, but also interested in other good branded laptops.

If you're interested in Mac, I have one up for sale here.

Hmm, I have to say that I'm very tempted to get such a fine looking machine. The only thing that puts me off a bit is that A) it isn't being shipped with the power adapter for sockets here (I'm being lazy on this one...) and B) I don't really get along too well with OSX. It looks really really great but certain aspects of it just seem to annoy me. Maybe I will come around...

Actually, I would ship it with a UK adaptor, so you needn't worry about plugging it in. Also, cowasaki has offered to ship the correct UK socket for a small fee (I am sure that is something I can sort out with him, if you are interest).

As for OS X. Well, that's all I run on my machine, but you could always install Windows!

Am I pimping too much  :p

I have finally ordered a laptop, and it is due for delivery on Monday (March 10th) I've gone for a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-1FN I'll let you know how it performs.
