large update gallery for websites

Hi everyone, just a wee question here

I have Adobe Dreamweaver and I have used it to create my website and update a gallery. I would like to upload a large amount of images at one time quickly. What would you recomend for creating a quick gallery for hundreds of images to be uploaded with?

I'm guessing a little about what you want, but try looking at some of the pre built galleries such as coppermine.

if your looking for a component to DW, sorry moved on from that years ago, only use an old version for the odd bit of hard coding.

CMS sites are more my cup of tea these days.
 
Uploading the images isn't a problem. Open FTP, press go, wait, job done.

It's linking the images that will be time consuming. You'll have to manually input each and every file name.

Or the other solution, as above is to go with one of the off the shelf solutions. I don't know what's available for photographers at the moment, but there's some great free stuff out there. Wordpress is popular at the moment, and has a growing number of plugins. I'm pretty sure you could find one where you could select a batch of images and upload the lot in one go, like you would do with Flickr/photobucket/etc.

Might not be your favoured option if you've already built the bulk of your site, but it'll be the easiest to maintain in the long run.

I am thinking is there something that can be used through Dreameaver to create a large gallery update (maybe around 400-500 images) that looks good.

I want to be able to update quickly, that is key but with no or little code required.

I assume that is the sort of thing the big agency websites would use in order to get the images up quickly.Thanks for the help.
 
I don't know of anything in Dreamweaver that can do this. And even if it did, it could be a real pain to maintain that amount of images over time. You're generating so much code to do it.

If it was a handful of images, then fair do's. But I'd seriously consider a CMS. Everything is logged into the database, and from there it can be manipulated in a variety of ways depending on the system. Hands down, that will be the easiest solution in the long run.

Have a look at Wordpress. The basic package is so easy to set up. Takes 5 mins. Find a plugin for the gallery. A theme you like...you might be surprised how easy it is to 'build' your own website these days. I'll be out of a job before long..
 
Lightroom? It has a publish to web option where you can upload a whole gallery of shots in flash or HTML format. Might be worth playing with the trial version and see if it does what you need.
