We are looking at ditching the 4 / 5 inkjets at work and replacing with one / two networked laser printer.

I'm looking for a cheap to run laser printer. We dont print out huge amounts of documents usually, but there are occasions when we will need to. Speed is not as important as running costs.

Can anybody reccomend me a good one to put forward to 'he-who-holds-the-purse-strings' :D
 
Colour or B&W?? Colour lasers are still horribly expensive to run, I run a combo of inkjets for colour stuff and B&W lasers for docs.

Just B&W. I cannot remember once in the last 7 years where we 'needed' colour, and we can, as you say, keep an inkjet for the odd colour print.

The Samsung ML-347x series of business mono lasers seem to rank pretty highly in reviews and we have one or two in the office here, consumables are still a bit pricey BUT not the priciest and you get a good hefty amount of pages from a single toner cartridge. Samsung also give you a FULL toner cartridge with a new printer unlike some manufacturers..... <cough>HP<cough>

Any laser printer will be cost effective compared to InkSpit.

Think carefully about the paper handling capabilities that you may require. Do you need two paper bins, do you require a paper bin of a particular capacity, will you be printing envelopes and will you be printing onto letterheads or other pre-printed stock? The cheap mono laser printers will probably have shortcomings in these areas.

Don't be too fussy with cost per print as you're already ahead of the game having made the decision to switch.
 
We have literally hundreds if not thousands of networked laser printers in our offices and they are all HP b&w or colour lasers and they are deffo bombproof, good quality print and fast. Not sure on running costs but they will deffo be cheaper than inkjet by a long way, i think most of ours are 4000 series, like 4200, 4250, 4650 iirc
 
here at work we use Canon photocopiers as printers :) much much cheaper to run then HP printers :)

we have a deal with Canon and dont pay for toners etc as part of our contract :)

We do the same but you pay a fair amount for the copier up front then pay per page printed, something like 0.6p for black and 5.5p for colour pages.
The major advantage is that this a fully serviced contract so you dont pay for repairs or toners.

hard to say how much we pay but I think its way less thay you say...but on the other hand we are higher education institution so we have huge discounts ;)
 
I run a design company and chose a Xerox colour laser printer. It's a Phaser 6360 and is awesome!

Now the running costs are not cheap unless you stick with B/W, but that would suit you and it suits me most of the time.

Cheaper models are less capable and come with less starter toner. The difference in cost between the models is often just the value of the toner you start with.

I had an HP laserjet before that for about 15 years. It started jamming about ten years ago and became such a hit and miss affair that it was costing as much in paper as I was saving not buying a new one. When the toner ran out, I switched.

At least my machine has not been upgraded or replaced in the 18 months I have had it. That is the problem with real cheap machines and the price of the toner is then held to ransom.

Choose wisely and for the long term.
