lesson one ..... your subject is the key 
the most amazing portraits i've seen were very simple.
subject by window and only shot with the daylight. no fancy tricks or gadgets.
practice with mum, dad, friends or lovers. your main skill will be finding the magic between you and them.
the more you relax, the more they do the same. thats when the shots come.
exposure, shutter, f number, iso blah blah blah ...... all are lost if your subject is uptight, shy or feeling uncomfortable.
go play and have fun ...... BOTH of you
