Lee IR filter, £15.99, what's the catch?

Infra red filters usually are expensive. Lee filters are usually mind-blowingly expensive. Naturally therefore I am suspicious as hell to find one of these at that price: http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-lee-87-ir-poly-filter/p1010819

I know of the problems with square filters and light-leak. Nothing blue tack and masking tape won't sort out, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something important here before I buy this.

If you do a search of google thats about the normal price for this filter. I would guess that it will be pretty pants with the filter holder and as you say will leak light big time. Unless you buy a spare holder and tape it all up so nothing leaks.

This is not a rigid resin filter like the nd grads ect. it is a gel & very flimsy, the word poly in the title means Polyester. Think of it more like a sweet wrapper & thats about how thick it will be.

The quality will be up to the normal lee standard but you have to be fairly careful not to mishandle them as they can be marked very easily.

For effective IR you need a tight seal between the lens front element, and the filter. As IR needs a long exposure, the Lee filter system isn't really appropriate as you'll get light leakage.

Get a Kood R72 (or Hoya) instead, and stepping rings for your lenses.
