Lens Advice For 70mm And Below

Hi Guys and Girls,
I've just sold my Tamron 28-300mm lens and purchased a Canon 70-300mm.
But I'm now looking for a lens to cover the smaller ranges below 70mm.
I've got a wanted ad for a Canon 17-85mm, but was after your opinions on this lens or any advice or suggestions of any other lens that would be best suited.
Budget is gonna be about £200 max though.
 
Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 OS (or older Non-OS version)
I used the older version on my 20D and the newer version on my D90 and both have been fantastic for the money!!
 
Another vote for the Older Siggy. Used one when I had canon. Very sharp, light and good value for money. Didn't need the IS/OS for what I shoot.
 
Check the classifieds. Siggy for sale there !
 
If it was the VC one I would have been very interested in him I think, would really rather the image stabalising on the lens.
Will keep it in mind though.

Depends on what you want to use it for and what the maximum aperture is....
 
Ahem the Sigma 17-70 is good........might be one for sale in the Canon for sale section.

Served me well until I had chance to get the next step up (£500+ used).

If it had the VC then i would have snapped it up. On a side note, apologies again for putting wrong information in your classifieds post.
 
Just been through a similar dilemma and decision process myself, althought I set my budget a bit higher. Having had a Canon 17-85 before and not being terribly happy with it I have now opted for the Sigma 17-70 (the OS one). Yet to see how it performs, but it certainly looks and feels like a quality bit of kit.

If you can do with a little less reach the Sigma and Tamron 17-50's get plenty of praise - new prices are over your budget, but you may get something secondhand.
 
Just got my 24-60mm f/2.8 today, seems pretty sharp - no HSM but besides that it's a great lens from my first impressions. Comes in under budget too!

EDIT:
No OS though, but it's a constant f/2.8 which might balance it out for you?

would be tempted but after selling the 28-300 im really after one that gives a bit wider angle than the 28, hence the 17mm ones.
