hi guys, need a bit of advice from you. Got a small spot from breathing onto my front element of the lens. I was trying to blow the dust off and didnt have any tools to use at the time. It left a small spot on my nikon 17-55 f2.8 front element. Im gutted as I had the lens brand new for two weeks only and was waiting for my cleaning kit & filter to arrive. I need a cleaning fluid to get rid of it and dont know which to for :(

What about the stuff you can get from Specsavers to clean glasses, it comes in little sachets and cost's around £2 for a box of 20. I have used these and it does a great job of cleaning the lens, handy to keep a couple in your bag as well.
 
where can I buy it guys?
 
many people seem to use Eclipse solution. Is that any better?

Baader Optical Wonder is formulated for the extremely sensitive and vulnerable astronomy scope elements, Eclipse solution is for cleaning sensors.

Go with the Baader, that bottle will last you years.
 
right, I sent them an email regarding their advice on the use of the wonder liquid on photolenses. They said its absolutely safe , but should be used sparingly. Does that mean not too often, or not too much?
 
It means not too much... In theory fluid could pass around the lens element into the kens (depending on the lens in question) which is something you don't want of course. You should never spray fluid onto the lens itself for this reason, instead you should spray the cloth.
 
Just wondering what the main differences are to say the cheap liquid you can get from jessops?

Don't shoot me down as I am just wondering.

Finally made up my mind...ordered it with the cloth..;)

I just spray two pushes onto the cloth, and wipe. Don't be alarmed about the 'streaks' as they soon evaporate/clear. Make sure the lens is clear of dust/debris first. As for the bottle lasting for years, I doubt it. Once you see how good it is, you'll use it more often. Six to twelve months, maybe, depending on how many lenses you have.

Mine has, and I use it to clean my specs ;)

Having said that I rarely clean my lenses, stems from my astronomy days, where the advice was always not to bother unless it was really bad, to avoid scratching the coatings.

Only time I use the fluid is if there are grease marks on the element, most of the time a rocket blower will do the job.

Have to agree with you. I purchased mine purely '*** I had a little grease on the front element. Unless something similar happens, rocket blower with a pen brush will do the job :)
