Hi all, I am in need of some advice.

Recently my Sony Alpha A200's Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro lens AF decided to play up and is isn't usable anymore after only a year and a days use, that's right the warranty was over by a day but Sigma nor Amazon could do anything unless it was for a cost which would mount up more than what the lens is worth! I thought this was the right time to upgrade my camera but with me just putting a car on the road with the cost of insurance etc I don't have this type of money. My decision is to buy a new lens for it and keep the camera a bit longer to have a bit more practice with it. The Sigma lens I had did an ok job but really was no good for what I needed it for. I need a good lens which is perfect for motorsport as this is what it will be used for all the time, a good price and for it to work well with my camera! probably around 70-300 again, if not a little more or less mm. As far as price goes I don't have a guide just not too much unless I will see a big gain in picture quality then I might consider it! Overall I feel this is the better option.

If someone could help me find a better lens it would be appreciated. At the moment I am stuck with a 18-70mm and for Motorsport this is no good at all!

Thanks everyone.

The Minolta 70 - 200 Beercan is a great lens, f4 across the range, should be able to pick one up for under £150.not as long as your 70 - 300 but super build quality.

by the way, what happened to your 70 - 300.

Dave.

Beercan 70-210 is a great lens apparently. If you want to do it properly on the cheap you could pick up one of the countless old Minolta telephotos for around 50 quid off ebay.

Meant to say 70 - 210., if you are thinking on getting rid of your broken lens, let me know.

Well I had another go with it, it has started working in Macro mode on the lens now but really slowly. Af in normal mode has completely stopped. Why are you interested in buying it? Also anymore suggestions on lenses other than second hand ones? Or is this the best I will get for my SLR? :)

Thanks.

I like to experiment with lenses, some lenses make excellent close focus with an element removed, try things you wouldent do with a working one.

Hello, I'm new from rainy Ontario, Canada. Sigma 70-300 in both apo and non-apo are well know for having stripped gears on Sony cameras. Their cheap plastic gears can't stand up to Sony's motor drive. For a lens that's equivalent and considered slightly better IQ wise, is the Tamron 70-300 LD Di. For various lens ratings for sony... www.dyxum.com
