lens hood help please

I have two lenses with the same filter thread: 52 mm. one is is 28 and the other 50.
I need a lens hood for them. One that would do both is fine. I don't want/need the original hoods that are designed for them. I wonder if those rubber ones are OK or rubbish? Thanks

They are fine! It's only to block out light

Just make sure it's wide enough for the 28mm! If you get one suitable for the 50mm you may see it at edges at 28mm

Different focal lengths needs different size hoods because they are different focal lengths. You don't need originals but you do need the right size.

Put one too long and you will see it. Put one too wide you might as well not bother.

A lens hood has a job, and can only do it properly if you buy the right one.

They're cheap considering what they do.

My advice; buy cheap copies of the originals if you're on a budget.

They are fine! It's only to block out light

A solid lens hood also offers a good deal of impact protection....especially to those lenses with prominent front elements.
