Hi, i have had my 100-400 is L in for repair at a well known retailers ,before the lens was dispatched it was checked and noted that the lens was free of any marks ,scratches etc(lens is 3 months old) upon the return i have noticed that the thier is a 1mm chip on the upper body on top as you look down on it, so it's noticeable when you know it's thier, more so on a white lens. i know i can touch it up with paint but if i ever sell the lens i would have to point out the small chip.not sure what to do ,i am more annoyed about it because if i would have done it i could live with it ,but it was not thier before it was dipatched to the repairer, lens is still in store untill i finish work and pick it up. Any advice on the matter would be apreciated as i am not the sort to go shouting and screaming in the shop ,as i do actually know and like the guy in the shop.

Who checked the lens before dispatch? You or the shop?

Do you have photographic evidence that the Mark was not there prior to the work?

If so go and have a word, don't need to go in shouting. If they're any good they'll offer to do something about it, if they don't then they're obviously not worth using again and then you can look at further options if needed.

The manager at the shop checked the lens , it is stated on the repair reciept /which i have a copy off, Condition : no marks or scratches .

Go and see the manager then and ask what they intend to do to rectify the issue.

Then why are you asking us, no disrespect, go back

Because it's a public forum , and i just wanted a bit of advice , i am going back tonight after work to pick it up , like i said it is still in the shop awaiting pick up , it's easy if you are the assertive type , but i am not and i just wanted a couple of views on the matter before i picked it up tonight. Thanks to all who replied.

I'd want a new lens - tell them you aren't satisfied as the resale value is now affected and ask what they intend to do about it.

I was not being rude, just "asserting" your rights.

The problem with the Brits is they take so long to complain that for years retailers get away with things.

It gauls me that we still have to (in the 21st century) be told like children, stop the papers when you go away, close the windows at night, don't give out bank account details, etc, etc, and still people do.

As I stated no disrespect intended but I do believe that far too many people pay far too little attention to the things that matter, such as knowing your rights.

Perhaps I am in the minority but when I return something which is rare I photograph it and ASK for a receipt (as you have got) that states no damage, if damaged I would simply walk back and say I am not leaving this shop until you rectify the problem.

Did you know there are still shops saying, it is down to the supplier not us, send it back to them and there are f$$$$$ out there that believe this, don't they watch programs like watchdog, don't get done get Dom, and Thats life was on for years.

Hi, No problem , i am going to contact their head office.,

Don't bother with head office just go back to the shop. Head office will just slow the whole process down. the manager will probably end up speaking to the repair company and head office will get involved then, give the shop a chance to put it right going to head office is a very aggressive approach.

Does sound fairly straight forward. You take pride looking after your kit. The experts should do the same - which they didn't. New lens please, or vouchers to cover what you'd lose selling on a damaged lens

Hi

If the shop checked it themselves, then there is no question it needs to be rectified, as there is your evidence.

I presume the lens was sent away for repair ?
