No
No I've not gotten engaged :D Just something I've been thinking about...

I appreciate how much weddings cost now, and how much we are expected to pay for the photographer. However, I refuse to spend 15k+ on my wedding day. I am too much of a cheapskate. That includes the photographer.

Now I am not expecting any special treatment, but lets say I wanted someone off these very forums to shoot my wedding day. How many people would be willing to give me all the images on a CD, and thats it? Thats all I want, I want to be able to make my own wedding book, just a way of cutting costs. Even the unedited images? I would be happy editing them myself, is it even worth me asking someone to consider this?

This is NOT a chance to bash me for being cheap, and cutting corners, I know there are some very talented people on here that wouldnt charge the earth, and I would love to have a TP member document my day :)

If I am honest, a couple of people here have already made my shortlist for when the day finally comes, someone fancy dropping hints to Darren?

I would do it if I was asked, plus just a cheque or something as a thanks and to cover costs.

However if I relied on wedding photography to live I probably wouldn't.

Thats fair enough :) It wouldnt be a freebie, (unless someone really loves me :D) but I hope they would be quite flexible when it came down to the package :)

If it was out of the main season/week day then I'd be somewhat flexible for you! :)

Obviously if it's during season then the bigger jobs would have to take priority in these difficult times!

Does your offer to do the editing extend to developing my films?;)

TP MEET!!!!:D

so perhaps mention to darren you going out for a shoot nov next year at a church.big ole house in the country and you will be wearing a big white dress and everyone will be very ****ed if you not wearing a fat stone!!!:D
i find subtlety works best at these times:D

If i am paid for my expenses and some for my time, i would hand over images on a disc.....i would be reluctant to hand over RAW though, but no problem hand over processed Jpeg. It's not so much about worried about copyright, its more i like to give finished products and only show people my best work.

If you covered a couple of nights B&B and the fuel costs I would come up and do it for you and you could have all the images.

Mondo, I totally understand. I would never give out RAW images... but would you for a friend? Not necessarily me, but someone very close to you? If they knew how to process RAW images, I think I would let them have them.

Ive just done a wedding as a favour and charged £25 for gods sake! Needs must it would seem

I would be MORE than happy to do something like this, but are others willing? :)

Hmm, i have given away RAW once, only once. And it still kinda haunts me lol It's mostly the fear what the other person are doing to them. I don't think its a matter of if the client knows how to do post processing, its more the idea of I have an idea how each and every image will look and like them done that way? It's not really something i have thought about again really, and I haven't really thought about who I will and will not hand over RAW files to.

I suppose for a good friend I would, maybe including some lodgings, a decent meal and petrol money, but like Raymond, I would rather hand over ready processed jpgs for something like this where a certain amount of individual artistic interpretation would feature. Having said that, on th eother hand, I am not sure I would want the stress and possible friendship breaker scenario of shooting a friends wedding, especially if that friend is a tog themselves.

sooooo.....good job I am unlikely to ever be asked really

The only time I'd be worried about giving someone a raw file is if I wasn't sure as to their ability to process it!

It would be like getting Aaron Sorkin (scriptwriter for 'Charlie Wilson's War' (2007)) to write a script and then giving the script to Uwe Boll to film!

If you would be happy processing the JPEGS, I wouldnt complain! It would be nice to have them ready to put in a book, plus if I processed them, they would look like my images then... thats not what I want

You can cover up a lot of mistakes when processing the pics and I am sure that some raw shots are quite unremarkable in their 'rawness'.

How you process the pics and present them is all part of the package.

But as a paying client (even in kind), you can make as many demands and conditions as you want and it's up to the photographer whether to chose to accept.

I think I would love to shoot a wedding with absolutely no responsibility. That's my idea of fun. I'm out of the running due to location in any event (if you pardon the pun).

Hope you get someone you trust.

Graham

I'd have a stab at it Betty, just cover my costs. I couldn't charge you, that'd leave me open to legal ramifications

I wouldnt need to take legal action on anyone anyway, cos they know if they **** up, Ill make their lives hell

God I sound like Bridezilla dont I? Ill get noone willing at this rate :D

if you provide a free bar and a floor to wake up on, i can take some wonky blurry shots for you:)

Not sure you'd consider me up to the mark Dee, but I'd be more than willing to do this for you Dee, RAW's 'n all... and all I'd look for would be costs covered.

You've always contributed to TP in a positive manner, always helpful, and always with a glint in your eye. You've helped no end of people on here, you have been brave in your posts, and made us all laugh. Personally I think (1) Darren is a lucky chap, and (2) it's a fabulously considerate thing you've done by stating you would love someone off TP to do your wedding photo's.

One thing I would suggest though would be to see if you could get two togs on here to do it for you. A little less pressure on the togs, more shots for you... just a thought.

Good luck in getting someone... :)

I'd have a stab, seriously, but I've got experience at all!

Ill do it for free, zilch, zero, nada, nowt, nothing.

As long as youre sitting in a jet plane or standing on stage holding a guitar;)
Dean:)

Bless ya, thanks John :) I dont want to pick someone randomly off Yell.com, Ive seen some brilliant photographers and their work here, its like Ive been researching since I joined. I wouldnt have it any other way :)

when is this wedding likely to be...roughly ?

2 years time? :D

If Betty's otherhalf is reading this...hint hint :p

Dude, you know him by name

free or not would probably be the most high pressured wedding shoot ever :)

I'd do it for a tank of petrol and a bottle of wine, although I can just imagine the C & C, poor Darrens not going to have an easy time between now and then. Poor lad :D

I am not the sort of person that drops hints 24/7, I just like to be prepared ;)

lol, imagine the first group shot with fill flash, the bridal party would be bling if everyone turns up

Now matter how good a friend they might be I wouldn't give out raw files - if they were that good a friend I'd give them the shoot, album, etc. as their wedding present
