Hi all, iam borrowing a friends cannon 24-105 lens and fancy attempting some night light trails. I've noticed this bulb setting-what is that for? Do I just use a 30sec shutter speed and what f-stop?

Appreiate any advice :)

I used these settings

Mode: Manual BULB
Exposure: 30 sec (30)
Aperture: f/11
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 100, higher the ISO's the more grain, so best to keep it down to 100

Thanks, what is the Mode: Manual BULB?

this means the shutter will stay open as long as you keep the shutter button pressed.

If you are going to use this, it is essential that you use a "cable release". It is great fun for experimenting with different times.... for example I did a night-shoot down in london and just put it on bulb and did 5/10/15/20/30 second exposures by simply pressing the button and holding it and counting

one thousand
two thousand
three thousand....

you get the picture? (sorry for the pun)

check out my flickr for some of the examples......

Forgot to say use a tripod and cable or remote release on bulb you can see how many secs as it shows a count on your screen, take a few images at different exposure times 10/ 20/ 30 secs, the longer the more trails so if you want less go for less time exposure
