I've seen a few posts about this on FB today, but thought it might be of interest to some.

Someone has built an open source clone of Lightroom (another another 6 Adobe apps including photoshop) which are free to download and use.

This is just the initial release, so it's likely going to be full of bugs and things that don't quite work as expected.

I feel these are being misrepresented because you get the impression this is software that looks and behaves similar to the Adobe software but I've tried the Lightcraft one and it's nothing like Lightroom at all.

The website is very nice, but at the same time it screams of SI, and claude specifically. "Your photos. Your pixels. Your machine." That's a very SI way to write H1. It is to be expected though given the whole thing is vibe coded, probably not unlike last updates from adobe.

This is actually a very smart way of marketing by this guy. If he just released yet another lightx app, nobody would care to try. Now many people already have, and given it is alpha nobody is expecting it to be perfect and will keep looking at it.

I don't care if it behaves "like Lightroom" other than getting the results done. It is a good thing if it has unique angles and goes where adobe doesn't.

I may try this out at some point, again as above not expecting miracles from 0.1

today we learned that AI has replicated much of Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite. ArtCraft is a small, two-person repository on GitHub that’s doing the rounds in the dev community that arrived seemingly from nowhere a week ago with an awful lot of code across a lot of projects ...

Two humans cannot generate this much code in such a short amount of time, or even a lifetime, suggesting that it’s entirely AI built. But how? Your author’s background before this was software engineering and I know how hard this stuff is. It would take quite some work for AI to build these tools. I’d like to fully test them, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to let vibe coded anything run on my computer with disk access. I have trust issues.

The photoshop style version seems to work and feel very much like PS. Only had a quick play so far, but for an early release it's good.

I had a quick play. The apps seem to take heavy design inspiration from adobe apps, but the behavior and presumably code are almost evidently distinct. Most of the basics work, and it is remarkable how small and fast all of the apps are. Some things are missing, quite a lot actually like any pen pressure support. I am quite interested in how it behaves with panorama merge and focus stacking so will test that next - and this is where photoshop is a bit antiquated and doesn't perform so well.

I note that in lightcraft they are directing you to download facebook SAM3 model, which is noteworthy if you intend to do any sort of such development yourself. I might have some use for it in a few applications.

PDF app should be quite useful to have for many here. I haven't crosschecked it against pdfgear which is one of the best free ones. Worth a go.

The cad app may get integrated into my floor plan development.

The only limits will soon be your imagination and access to tokens. Get creative.
