I've read about the vast selection of wildlife available to snap around this area, but I am thinking primarily about the Osprey.
Does anyone have any experience of photographing the Osprey on Loch Garten, and is 300mm going to get good shots, or would 400/500mm or further be required?

Thank you.

John.

Only been to the Ospreys at Loch of the Lowes (Perthshire) but would be keen to know about the Loch Garten ones.

From what I remember of Loch Garten many years ago even 500mmm wouldn't be enough, the main hide was a good distance away. It may be different now though, that was back in 1993

They may do a flyby, but generally 600 isn`t enough, never mind 300.

Sorry for the negative info, but most RSPB/sanctuary places are similar.

Wild ones are so much better............:)

i went to Garten 2 years ago, its hopeless for photography unfortunately, not so bad if you have a very good scope and digiscoping setup. Loch Of The Lowes is much better.

There are decent opportunities for Red Squirrel at Garten though, and its a scenic place to visit.
