Morning All!

Quick question in the hope that someone will know....

Me and a mate have decided to see if we can catch any morning markets in London on Tuesday morning - we're planning on leaving about 4am (note to self....caffine....caffine.....)

So.....anyone got any suggestions on when / where to go please???

Thank you!
Kristy

Where abouts in London are you going?

Massive Billingsgate fish market from like 3am. Canary wharf. E14

Smithfield’s Meat Market, 5am. Smithfield’s, City.

Bricklane Market. brick'a'brac, old style fruit and veg market, etc. ...on to Spittlefields trendy market, clothes, art, food. From 7am onwards. Cheshire street. E1/2

:)

Thanks guys! I quite fancied a flower / fruit type one - so Brick Lane sounds like a good bet?

i used to pass through smithfields around 8:00 am...and they were all in the pub and nearly over for the day
i think thats a cool spot
little britain is in that area as well
it was 1980 so things may have changed

smithfield being old has a lot of historical feel to it

Excuse, but I've just read your first post properly and your down on Tuesday!!

Bricklane is sunday only ...ops, soz about that. :gag:

Spittlefeilds is everyday though. :)

I don't know the New Covent Garden as the poster above has suggested...But the old Covent Garden near the West End is open every day, kinda arts and crafts, some old style food and veg bits. ...Great place for photography, but it does depend on exactly what your after shooting?

Yeah brill place, I spent a morning down their many years ago shooting bloody men carrying cow halves against the Victorian backdrop, Iron work everywhere, glass roofed...very smelly.

Must go back and shoot it digital ...part of me thinks I’ve been told they don't do as much down their nowadays? ...not sure if that’s true though.

As said above, "9 elms covent garden market", its located in 9 elms Battersea. Its the largest in london. its has flowers on one side and fruit and veg the other.

If you want traditional buildings though then you want something like billingsgate, but as you know its a fish market.

that is why i mentioned 1980 ish when i worked at farringdon and legged it all the way from bank...delicious days...and the smell of those bacon butties...around 7:40 am
i think perhaps with health and safety they may have sanitised what must have been real london market atmosphere
sawdust to catch the blood and the spilt directors bitter
