Looking for some extra batteries for my 7d, just wondered what you guys thought about the many 'compatable batteries' that are on the market.

I have used these before when I bought my 400d ages ago, purchased from 7dayshop and found they were fine, but that was ages ago.

Or am I best sticking with Canon originals???

Also does anyone know the best place to buy these?

The LP-E6 batteries are chipped so the compatible ones don`t register on the LCD and they cannot be charged with the original charger. If you buy compatibles make sure you get a charger to charge them, I bought an original as I didn`t want to risk warranty problems etc. I always bought compatible batteries for my 450D without any issues.

I don`t think it will be long before someone produces a compatible with a chip.

No doubt someone else will be along any minute with a bit more info. :)

Curious - what's the price difference with these generic batteries and what, if any performance shortfalls are there?

I always buy the Nikon batteries for my kit - it wouldn't occur to me to do otherwise...maybe I'm missing a trick here...

I bought a 2nd battery for my 7D when I got the camera and it was about £60. Only need one spare as it lasts well and I want to be able to travel with only 1 charger so stuck to Canon
