With the new mac app store up and running has anyone got any decent apps that they use a lot and recommend.

I got the free watermark app which i like and is very easy to use

The Mac app stores been around for ages!

I dont actually use them as I'd already had most - Aperture, iPhoto, pixelmator, iWork etc! I know my little brother downloaded 'a monster ate my homework' and loves playing that...

Even though it has been around for a while I'd never found the "Caffine" app before, it's very handy for changing the power mode of your Mac with one click.

Also being able to download the iWork apps individually (ie not having to pay for Pages and Numbers when I'll never use them).

And of course the Intego Virus Barrier Express.

how bad is the virus threat on a mac, i was on the understanding its quite safe???

how much is the barrier?

The express version is free, so it's a no brainer. No operating system is virus proof, not even OS X.

sweet, worth getting now i know its free, has it highlighted anything for you or just peace of mind?

It hasn't found anything, but they my AV never found anything on my PC system either, but as it is free it is worth downloading and running it every so often for peace of mind.

How much does Aperture cost on the App store? I'm just about to splash out on a new MBP and it's £150 for aperture to come preinstalled!

£44.99

Save yourself £105 and press the buy button yourself!

Bonkers price difference.

Same goes with the RAM and HDD upgrades as they are supposed to be "User replaceable parts". £138 to get Apple to upgrade the RAM to 8GB, or £60 to buy 8GB off Crucial and do it myself.

Well the Back to School promo started today, so I've finally ordered my MBP. £65 to spend on the App store instead of iPod like previous years, means it'll feel like I've got Aperture for free.
