Mac o/s 27 printing

After updating my Mac Studio M1 I found that Epson Print Layout (EPL) did not recognise any printers (I use an Epson 8550). Trying to reinstall EPL resulted in a failure message. Turning to Keith Cooper on YouTube I found he had experienced this issue, but better still he had solved the problem. Apparently the problem was that EPL relied on Rosetta, which is no longer included in the Golden Gate upgrade. Installing Rosetta via Terminal solved this. Just thought this might help. His video on this issue gives more detail.

Perhaps, just perhaps, someone at Epson will have finally realised that as far as Mac are concerned, Intel processors are dead. Epson always seem behind with their drivers.

There are a lot of issues with drivers for slightly older devices all-round, not just mac. My vcds scanner stopped working on windows and bloody ross tech wont release an update forcing you to buy a whole new one. My canon printer is presumably dead on macs in the same way.

There has to be consumer protection law requiring to open source the actual kernel driver. Same as being able to repair your car or tractor outside of stealership

FWIW Golden Gate also kills Fujitsu Scansnap scanners. You need to downlaod a new beta version of the app. It then works well, although I had to re-establish the wireless link.

Epson here and keep getting the warning that intel based stuff won’t be supported in next upgrade

It just refuses to talk to Apple kit.

See above posts. As long as Rosettta is installed then Golden Gate works with Epson. But Apple are dropping Rosetta after this so it will be down to Epson to make their software compliant.

windows now has a thing about mandating certain signed and certified drivers. Better hope yours are and remain on that list. I am not so lucky!

I think going forward I will be buying hardware that specifically works with linux or generic drivers. I don't want my tools obsoleted by 3rd party software update again!
