Just interested to see what's the favourite - mac or normal pc/laptop - My sister has just been raving about the photoshop capabilities of the Mac - but having never owned one - have no idea which is best ?
 
Both! :) That's what i have. I've got an 11" Alienware with Windows 7 - which i do everything on, I've also got a 13" Macbook which i do everything on (other than play MW3)
 
It's a bit like the Nikon/Canon argument - different strokes for different folks :) Personally, I prefer using a mac

Do those threads get a bit heated Neil?
 
I use Mac at home and PC at work. The general opinion of my mac user buddies it that mac means you don't suffer the interminable updates and fixes that you are forever installing on PC. Photoshop has the same capabilities. I guess the choice is determined by budget.

windows updates are generally fornightly. every other tuesday.

anyway its not like OSX doesnt have updates, could do with a few more to be honest ;)

Obvious I would have thought, simple answer to a simple question, Windows, or well,.... perhaps Mac

I run Windows on my Mac, saves you having to make a choice then :D

Question answered. Close thread. Photoshop has all these amazing features on mac you just wont see on windows, making me a better photographer than all the windows users.

I am a mac user. I prefer the OS and find them much more user friendly. MAcs are in no way over priced - Find a pc with the same spec as an imac and you will find it costs the same if not more.

an analogy I like to use is that of kellogs frosties. Only Steve had the special ingredient that he used to add to the mac mouse to mac it do extra stuff in programs like photoshop. Much like frosties had that special ingredient, you had to join up to the club to find out what it was when you were a kid.

It's why mac mouse only have one button. The other one evolved to lock in the secret

The 2560-by-1440 LED-backlit displays are perfect.

Seriously mind its an impossible question to ask. It all depends on the spec of the PC you are looking at. You will find a pc of the same spec and it will cost a very similar price, the key difference is then how much cooler the mac is.

not just how much cooler the mac is, but how much cooler it makes you once you touch it. Heres a before and after of me when i had a pc and then when i touched a mac

yeah its a personal preference, i cant stand any of the mac glossys. even in the middle of our design dept away from the windows all i can ever see is myself. and nobody needs that... :lol:

generally id say most windows based photographic users will already have a decent IPS panel in their life though.

I hate to drag this thread down to a sensible level but I think I read somewhere that you can now order an imac with a matt screen if you are so inclined.

I'm a mac user and my life has been enriched as a result. Since I bought my first mac, I have bought a house, a car and a DSLR (Yes, I learnt poetry too). I got married and I became a father. In all my years of PC ownership, none of that stuff happened. Draw your own conclusions. :)

I did all of that before PC's/macs were invented, I've also got a ferret and a mongrel dog :lol:
 
I have always had windows computer, mainly because I thought that you always got a lot more processing power for your money, larger hard drives, memory etc. I made the change to a iMac just under a year ago. Best thing I ever did. To start no more running anti virus, registry cleaners, ad cleaners, lots of updates from microsoft and the various update from all the other protection software. Sure I get to do updates from Apple, but not very often. Moving on, my photoshop and lightroom software run much better without the system locking up or crashing, even when running Nik software filters within the Adobe packages.
It works for me but you need to decide what's important to you.
 
You don't need reg cleaners or ad cleaners if you only click on things you're supposed to.. ;) and if it's crashing often something is wrong, that's not normal.

Anti virus for mac is a can of worms though, we're testing Sophos av for mac at the moment at work. Its the sensible route to take as there have been a few bits of malware now.

I'm not sure if you're actually joking or not; but if you're serious, then honestly, anyone who says Photoshop is different on a Mac is a clueless idiot.

I love my Macs. But Photoshop is exactly the same on them as on a PC.
 
the whole concept of the question is wrong

it should OSX 'v' Windows

or

Apple 'v' Dell 'v' Sony 'v' Self Build and so on. :D :D


You can't really ask is this bit of hardware better than that bit of software

When people ask Canon or Nikon all the sensible replies generally say go down to a camera shop and try them both and see which you prefer.

I say the same for macs...pop down an Apple store and have a play and see what you think.


Personally I'd been a windows fan for years and years (since 3.1) and decided to buy a macbook 3 years ago...never looked back.

One thing that got me to try them was I realised that I'd never really heard a mac owner slate OS X where it was pretty common for me to hear Windows owners to slate XP, Vista,7 etc so I thought I'd give it a go.

As for the cost difference I was also firmly in the camp that macs were overpriced but again my opinions changed now. If my mac broke (3 years on and no sign yet) I'd buy another in a heart beat.

Other peoples mileage may vary though
