Hi everyone, just bought my first Mac, a very cheap G4 off eBay just to have a play around with. This is the spec:

G4 PowerMac Desktop
Dual Optical model
867mhz dual processor
512mb RAM
60gb HDD
32mb GPU
Running OS X 10.4 - Tiger

Everything is sweet and it runs fine for such a low spec however I cannot get Photoshop to boot (naturally this is the reason I bought the damn thing!). I've tried CS2 & CS3 and get the same thing happening, the splash screen comes up then it just dies before the program actually opens and gives me a no help error message. Has anyone come across this before? I'm tearing my hair out over it!

Rob.

Well the min requirement for both CS2 & 3 is 512mb I believe although it does say a 64mb graphics card and I only have 32mb but we run PS on a mac at work and that only has 16mb graphics!

If you google "photoshop crash launch" you get quite a few results all with different fixes.
Probably best if you look through them as you'll probably recognise the problem easier than anybody else.
This is the Adobe solution http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403420.html
although it seems a little simple and I doubt you've installed the app in the wrong place at this time.

Do you have a mac version of the cs2 & 3??

Yep they are Mac versions. I have Googled and tried most of what I've founbd but I'm sure there are other fixes out there I haven't tried. I just want to throw it out of the window and boot up my PC lol

Try re-installing it and if that does nothing, go to a local Apple Store. Although it's an old model, they will still help you out. Good luck!

Just a thought - is the software version you're trying to run an Intel version. Which you're trying to run on an old powermac? Just a thought. Ignore me.....

/edit - or maybe your photoshop s/w is a very recent version that requires Leopard?

Hi 2blue4u, it's CS2 that we're running on a lower spec machine at work so it should work on mine!

CS2 is only available as power mac version, an intel mac has to emulate an old machine.
CS3 "knows" what it's being run on.

Also log on to the abobe website, there is a clean up programme to take any old registrations off.

Finally managed to get it sorted after hours, days and even buying a new graphics card! Deleted the plist file and it worked. Stoopid things lol.

Thanks for your help everyone.
