is 128gb the max memory for this ?? if not what can it be upgraded to

It's not. It's actually a removable component.

The SSD in the MacBook Air seems to be proprietary to Apple in terms of it's form factor. 3rd party upgrades were briefly available when the first all SSD models were released, but Apple quickly stamped on them.

So, technically the SSDs can be upgraded, but in practice, due to Apple's measures, they can't.

arent they just 1.8" drives or similar? we had a small dell that used a similar looking unit to the video above.

No, they actually look like a big RAM module in the new MacBook Airs, and aren't even close in terms of shape and size to 1.8 HD. Also while the interface is SATA, it's not a normal form factor SATA connection thus complicating matters even more.
 
Your right, these were used in the first generation MacBook Airs which can be unofficially upgraded, however they don't fit into the newer generation models.

I'm assuming that the OP is talking about the current generation. If I'm wrong then I'll shut up and slink off ;)
 
I've been looking to increase the capacity of my MBA & MBP; came across OWC who supplies all sorts of memory upgrades ....

For the 2011 MBA, as mentioned above, they do come in 256GB SSD; but OWC seem to have a 460GB SSD upgrade for it.

I've yet to decide if I want to go down this route, of doing my own RAM / SSD / HD upgrade; but it sees like a very good price : memory capacity :thinking:

Thanks for that, that's very interesting. We've so far not been able to source any 3rd party SSD upgrades for the MB Air here. IF OWC can do them and get away with it, then it'll be worth taking closer look to work out if we can get stocks here in Switzerland.

I am currently contemplating replacing my current 2GB RAM MBA with a new one that's got 4GB RAM, and then doing the SSD upgrade to the 480GB advertised (by the way, it's 480GB, and not 460GB as I had posted in my earlier post).

I'm also thinking of doing a major overhaul to my MBP. Changing the existing hard drive to 1TB, replacing the DVD with another 1TB, and the RAM to 8GB.

I've just got to think a bit about the total cost of all this, how much more life does it buy me vs. just buying a new machine, etc.

The Max storage on the 11" is 128Gb, whilst the 13" is 256gb

Wrong, on the newest Airs you can infact change the drives as previously mentioned. Also, you can get the 11" with 256GB directly from Apple.
