Could someone recommend a macro lens for a begginer please.

The Sigma 105 is a cracker. You will need to get the flash somewhere near the end of the lens too. Or, you could just go for some extension tubes or a Raynox.

Most macro lenses have a very short working distance from focal plane to subject at the macro end of things (eg 1:1) so you will need to get very close to what you are photographing. The Nikon 60mm AFS is very good but at 1:1 you will only have about 50mm between the subject and the end of the lens! A good thing if you are working on a table in front of you, but not if you want to work from your scooter with real life. Generally the longer the focal length the greater the working distance.

Agreed the sig 105mm is brill and razor sharp.

The Raynox is a very cheap way to get started with it, just got one myself and am more than happy with the results, a little more DOF would be nice but I cant grumble at the price - only £40

There's some pics on my flick, and also a big thread on this forum somewhere.

Is this the type of thing? Whats the image quality like?

A Raynox DCR250 on the end of your lens will be a great way to start. Cheap as chips and will give you a good feel for macro without splashing out ££'s.
