macro settings?

what is the optimum set up with regards to macro metering and focus modes?
what are you getting best results with?
i'm guessing spot or center weighted?
single point focus?

Difficult to use auto focus when doing macro, manual is better. Metering, I use centre weighted, usually, but it depends upon the subject so I tweak for the best result. I don't have spot. Of course if you're using flash things are very different.
