Wasps and bees (and flies) have a thing for decomposing fruit.

A tiny(!) bit of honey will lure in the bees.

I built a custom light rig for my 100mm macro last year, DIY guide is here:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=556002

It's pretty compact and ensures reliable light and sharp images every time. All I had to do was crawl around between 400 wasps eating plums and push the shutter button. Did you know that wasps will fly at you in a "fake" attack ONCE if you annoy them? Annoy them again and they come at you for real. I learned that last year.

My shots from that setup: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dk_spook/sets/72157606761811323/

WOW i dont think id be able to make that set up ive never been good with my hands but i will remember the honey bit, by the way your photos are great i love them:clap::thumbs:

I made a ring flash adapter thingy that works... (have a look at this). I'm no good at DIY either, but I managed to knock this together. It's made of cardboard, white paper and the spindle from a CD stack (the site with the design was linked to on here, but I can't find the thread to thank and credit). It's no use with my flash in brighter conditions as I don't have enough control over the flash. As for getting them to stay still, I know that Alby has used jam to lure ants....

Thanks - but do give it a try. I'm a total retard with tools (broke my own arm swinging a hammer last summer...) but this is ridiculously simple. Bend something into shape, add two holes and start shooting.
