Hi

Just bought a Nikon 28-105AFD to try on my D90 and these are the first macro shots I have taken.

Happy with the lens not sure what I can improve on with regards to the pic's.

Nice colours, perhaps a tad more light in the second one?
 
They are not really macro tho are they? Close up maybe but not macro.
 
Nice colours and light on the first one though the vignette is little to heavy for my eye. The second shot needs a shallower depth of field in my opinion, my eye just keeps bouncing around the whole shot.
 
The second is the better of the two imo, I quite like the 3D effect it has. I don't think the compositions are particularly great, I think you should try and isolate the subjects more potentially by getting in closer and looking for a cleaner background.
 
Thank you all for the comments. I agree it is not a true macro as the lens is not a true macro lens.

Also agree on composition as it is something I need to work on in my photography.

Thanks Kurt, just bought the lens so don't want to try removing the front element... :)
