That unfortunately is the decision to make and much easier to make if you know when the mkII will be out...

As has been said, the 7D new major firmware update is due out, which is leading to speculation the the mkII won't be along for a while, but only Canon knows for definate.

Personaly, if you are in no rush, I'd hold off for a couple of months and see if there are any new rumours / launch's of new bodies and then decide. Don't forget though, if / when the mkII comes out, it will be significantly more than the mkI (even if they don't increase the price as they did with the 5D mkIII) at launch and will take a while to settle in price - could mean an even longer wait...

It depends really. Is this your first camera or do you already have one?

If this is your first then why not get a 40 or 50d now and then upgrade to the 7d or 7d2 at a later date?

If you already have a camera then why do you want a 7d? Does it fill those requirements? If so then buy one now, it won't become a bad camera when a mk2 comes out (unless you want to blame your tools ;-) )

If you are ready to go buy one now i think you will have a long wait for a Mk 2 if ever the 5D3 has the same focas side if not better so will Canon reduce lens sales with a better 7d2 maybe but if you fancy crop i would go now.

I had one great speed the only thing i was not fond of was if you got exposure off a little i got a lot of noise and spent time post trying clean them up.

From a tog who looks after his stuff vbg If you have a good check out you should get a decent one on the bay for the first time i bought a grey 5D3 everytning went well only way i can the difference is the charger.

I went down the route of searching for a good used 7d I eventually got one
with hint site I should have just bought a brand new grey from panamoz and paid by BT as it worked out at around 780 and comes with panamoz 12month warranty
hdew was dearer but came with 3 years hdew warranty
a used 7d uk or otherwise is unlikely to come with any warranty especially if bought privately

I've bought 2 bodies and 1 lens from Hdew and 2 bodies and 2 lenses from Panamoz and TBH I'd recommend them to anyone. They both give very good prices, very good service and I'm sure if you needed a warranty claim it would be sorted very professionally too.

As for the camera, I wouldn't recommend a 7D as your first camera, I had a few problems with mine and while it was very good, it has had the lowest keeper rate of any of the 6 bodies I've had. I'd suggest a 60D, as I have one myself and know how good they are, to start with or a cheapish second hand 40 or 50D and build up to a 7D.

And for not alot more than a 7D used, but thumbs up,

I told you years ago to buy a proper camera Nikon.

Guess who this is :D

Congrats on your forthcoming arrival. I hope you get the very best out of it and look forward to seeing some of the results on here.
