Magazines :D

I subscribe to Digital Camera Magazine. I find it to be pretty decent, especailly at £8 a quarter.

Digital Photo - it strikes a good balance between articles and items aimed at beginners and the more expert stuff.

Amateur Photographer.

Yes, half of it IS adverts but I find them as interesting as I do articles in other titles TBH!

I have only brought Digital Camera and Digital SLR Photography once and so far i seem to like digital SLR photography more as it seems more aimed at the amateur than the professional.

I subscribe to digital SLR photography - there's lots of tutorials and adverts and it's quite inspirational if you're a beginner, although I doubt it would appeal to anyone who's got some experience.

But I like it!!! :)

I read the British Journal of Photography for the first time last week - really enjoyed it. Liked the lack of advertising as I can't help but feel that the other mags have got too many adverts. No tutorials in this mag, but some nice photos and reportage. Made a nice change.

I used to have Practical Photography but stopped it as it became too repetative.
Looking at various options but not settled on one yet, they just seem to copy each other. I think there are too many to choose from and none stand out.

Photo Plus. (Canon Edition) ((Although I've never seen a 'non Canon Edition'))

Read this even when I didn't shoot Canon.
Lot's of their reviews relate to other than Canon products (Sigma, Tamron, tripods etc)
And their Photoshopping techniques are great.

Amongst other things.........

Playboy is photography right?

Ive read a few different mags over the last few months and i like the one with the big cheesey grin editor, i think its a canon only mag.

Most are comparable though really, they dont take me far enough though, only had a DSLR 2 months.

I get Digital Photo, Practical and Outdoor Photography on subscription but I much prefer Amateur Photographer. I find its the only one that doesn't repeat itself and as its weekly the news is a lot more current, it also has a good monthly competition.
I find Digital Photo boring as it is all about post production, Practical is OK and Outdoor is quite interesting but again does get quite repetitive.
Some of the pro mags are a good read as most of the market seems to be aimed at the beginner.

More magazines - I notice there are two new ones - Advanced Photographer and Digital Photography Enthusiast. I bought a copy of each - AP i think I need a couple more to decide if its a worth while read. DPE I don't like, too much on iphones and similar, won't buy again.
Any one else thought on these newees?

Cancelled my sub to Digital SLR Photography and tried two copies of the new Advanced Photographer, but not impresssed and cancelled that as well (did say don't bother sending the last one of the three for three quid offer, seemed wrong to just be a ponce)

We have a stall in our town's market every monday that sells last months magazines for a quid each or 3 for £2.50. Always has a good few photographic titles and just pick up anything that looks interesting.
Had the outdoor one this week and digital slr user along with photography monthly, something to read over the holiday and then recycle.

Are there any actual -photography- magazines, as opposed to ones with lame reviews of cameras or techniques describing how to do this month's equivalent of selective colour?

Talking about ones with photo essays, campaigns and maybe a bit of business if need be, from leading photogs, and not just the twitterfamous ones...

+1
Picked up a copy of BJP for the first time a couple of months ago. An excellent read and full of inspiration.

Repitition kills the tutorial monthlies - and most (if not all) of their content can be found online.

Photography Monthly for me, i find Amateur Photographer a little too expensive @ £2-50 every week, although i'll have a flick through and buy one occasionally.

Black And White Photography for me. Not too many ads and the articles are interesting and treat the reader with respect.

As for the other mags, I tend to buy on impulse and just skim through them muttering "seen it before, seen it before..."

Right now ive got two subscriptions, Practical photography (which i WONT be renewing, this months is good but all the others have been too hit and miss) and Digital SLR Photography (this one is great), but as soon as Practical photography subscription comes to an end ill be getting Photo Plus canon edition subscrip. instead.

If i had to choose one id say photoplus canon edition would be my choice, bought it a few times now and its really consistently good. Recommended from me.

In case any of you are wondering, yes i know i have a sony dSLR and i shouldnt be buying canon edition mags (not that they do a sony edition either for that matter...???) but im getting a 5D Mk II in april and that mag has helped me choose my future kit :)

Si

same here, doesnt repeat the same thing every few months.

I get digital photographer which is very good. Mix of tutorials, pro tips and good articles and printed on very nice paper.

Black and white magazine, its my first love photography wise and has the most interest for me.

BJP is a must for me. Hate mags that just talk about the technical side of photography, bores the life out of me, so for me either Hotshoe , Foto8 or Foam

Silvershotz for me mix of film and digital and in some cases very arty.
