I recently switched from an old Logitech mouse to Magic mouse. I simply needed another mouse+keyboard at work, and that one didn't support back/forward button on Mac.

Now I have trouble with the apple toy, when working with photographs, and using google maps. When I try to scroll, it is skipping through many photos at a time. When I try to navigate a map or a move a photograph, it frequently zooms in / or skips to another photograph.

Is there anything I can do to stop this? Shall I look at another mouse or tablet + keyboard solution? (must be 100% mac compatible and use no more than 1 USB port)

If I hold Shift and scroll, I get moved back and forward in the web browser, if I hold CTRL and scroll the page zooms in and out. Could this be what's happning to you?

You can adjust the scrolling speed in the Mouse section of the Settings app.

Thanks for reply.

I don't hold any keys pressed. The mouse clearly can't distinguish normal click and drag action from 'swipe' gesture.

I have played a bit with scroll speed settings, disabled acceleration completely, but it still misbehaves. It seems great for general web browsing and word processing but that is all, unless I missed something too obvious?

Edit: perhaps I should do the obvious and harass somebody at the local Apple store?

Try installing MagicPrefs which allows more customisation options. It took a while for me to get used the the MM but I love it now.

Thanks. Will try it tonight

please have a look at my Magic Trackpad thread :)

im stuck lol

I tried a trackpad and just couldn't get used to it on a desktop. Didn't feel right to me.

MagicPrefs is great, at least in theory, however I uninstalled it last night as it doesn't seem to like my fat fingers. Just couldn't get the calibration right - was going back 5 pages in browser, gestures not working etc.

but if im sat on my sofa rather than at a desk?

wont it be easier?

and also i hear the magic mouse is a bit odd?
