Manual focus tips/advice please...

Presently using a couple of manual focus lenses by Samyang and require expert manual advice shooting with a D810 body please.

I'm guessing for best results select the switch to manual focus, does the small focusing box in the viewfinder then become obsolete and it's not important where it sits in the screen... For best results; use LiveView (if possible) for best critical results along with a tripod...?

Any other important tips I've maybe missed using manual focus lenses on the Nikon D810 body ? Any replies greatly appreciated, thanks.

Regards;
Peter

Basically, Peter, this is a case where the "play
chicken" is better:

On manual, focus until you get focus confirmation
with the green circle at bottom left!

Do you still use the "focus point box" to actually focus on a subject then confirm with the green circle bottom left of viewfinder ?

I seem to be totally ignoring the focus point box when focusing on a subject, this is wrong then...?

Cheers;
Peter

The only connection between the focus ring
of your lens and the deactivated AF is that
focus box.

When deactivating the AF, one deactivates the
electro mechanic part as the electronic part of
the AF remains active. So, yes, the focus box
is fully functional and could be moved around
in the VF as usual!

Use the green circle. My best results were in live view with the magnification turned up - this is very subject dependent.
