Hi, just trying to figure out which is best for dark filter for shooting water blur during day. Manual focus before you put the filter on? Is there anything else I should be thinking of, apart from tripod, low iso and f32?

Thank you that is a really useful link..No I can't calculate in my head, this is what I find the hardest part of photography so far. My brain is not mathematical unfortunately, just will go with trial and error..

Anyway the focus part of it, am I right in thinking manual is the way to go?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help..

No Probs

Yeah focus on the scene, I think usually 1/3rd of the way is how I've seen it described. Using an fstop of f16 should probably give you enough depth of field anyway.

You don't need to manual focus. You can autofocus but you must remember to turn the focus mode to manual once focus has been achieved. If you forget to move to manual focus the camera will just search for focus with the filter attached and you will need to unscrew the filter and start again.

Once you have focus and you are happy with the exposure, take a note of the shutter value and reference it to this chart.

Then screw on the filter. adjust the shutter value using the chart as a guide and take the shot. It may not be exact but should be in the ballpark.

Thanks again Andy, can't wait to get out there... I have printed off the chart a handy addition to my bag...your a star thanks..
