Yes
Taz has one of the above I want to buy.

We think it will meter on a Nikon d300, can anyone confirm this

Yes, set it up as a "Non CPU lens", select 55mm and f/3.5, you can then shoot in A mode or Manual mode.

That worked great thanks, I noticed that the f3.5 does not change from 3.5. I take it I have to enter each f stop manually ?

No, you only need to to enter 55mm f/3.5 with the ring set at f/3.5 and then when you move the aperture ring to f/5.6 for example in Aperture priority mode the top dial will change to f/5.6, and EXIF will correctly reflect this.

I am assuming you have an AI-S lens?

If you have an older lens lens than that, you'll need to use "stop down" metering - this means the lens will correctly meter at f/3.5 but if you move to f/4.0 you to exposure compensate by +0.3EV etc, and for f/5.6 you'll need to compensate by +1.3EV etc.

Had another go with this tonight and I suspect I might have a pre Ai lens

Is there any way of telling? If it helps the serial number is 881894
