In the menu of my Nikon D800 it shows this



Which is the amount of battery life left irrespective or charge.

My problem was having 4/5 batteries which had what life left in it. So I thought Dynotape the opposite end to connecting pins



Simple quick check.

as a dumb question why 2 2's ???

Incidently, I also label my batteries 1-6 & use them in that order...
 
they were the first batteries bought for the camera a few years back I guess

we all have different ways and a marker is ideal until it starts getting dark

My experience with the D800E I have is that the whole battery system
in unreliable. I discovered that even the Nikon original pack is pretty
much what my son call "Mickey Mouse" stuff.

After some ten days of misery, I decided to remove definitely the pack
from the body and got me some black PRO Eneloop. Since then (two
years) that D800E is a proper machine.
 
Mine are marked with the date I purchased them or the camera they came in.
 
I don't get out enough, I get by on a maximum of 2 Canon batteries and 2 Lumix batteries and just swop them around each time. Good job I don't own a Sigma DP Merrill though.

Unless it's a Lumix GH3 with a battery grip shooting stills.;)
 
Do you really get through 4 batteries in 1 day?
 
I use the supplied clip on covers for my Canon, turn them round so the battery logo shows black for flat and blue for charged :) won't help ye Nikon users :D
 
I had a Maplin p/n SJ19V so just used some labels from that. My RX10 eats batteries at a ridiculous rate so I have plenty and like to use them in sequence.
 
If bothered about using black markers for identifying on black subjects, I have a white touch-up paint pen from a car shop to mark batteries, otherwise use Tippex.
