Memory advice

With my impending trip to Uganda looming (well, when I say looming I mean October, but I'm away for work for 5 weeks with plenty of internet shopping time) I'm trying to make sure I'm suitably equipped for it.

I'm going to be there for 2 weeks but will have no means of downloading photos so will have to carry enough memeory cards to see me through. Would I be better off having more smaller cards e.g 8GB or should I consider just a couple of larger cards? Obviously if I have smaller cards I'll lose less photos if there are any failures but I'll have to take more cards which will increase my chances of losing one/some. What are people's thoughts on this?

I have a couple of 8GB cards already but would half a dozen be a suitable amount to see me through? Obviously if I shoot jepg rather than RAW they'll go a lot further:)
 
Also, after a bit of browsing:
Sandisk 8GB 30MB/s Extreme on Amazon at £14.99 but the closest thing on Jessops is 8GB 20MB/s at £49.95. I know Amazon can quite often be quite a bit cheaper but less than half the price for something apparently 50% better (or at least quicker)? Are the Amazon ones likely to be legit?
 
First of all check out if the cards are coming from Amazon or a third party via Amazon Market place. You can find out by clicking on the link and it will tell you if it's from Amazon or "DodgyCards.com" :)

Also check out the price at Warehouse Express. That'll give you some idea as to the sort of price you could be paying

You should go for the ones from amazon direct and avoid 3rd party sellers.

Both of the above seem to be pretty good too! I presume these are all genuine? I guess card failures are always a possibility but to be a bit cliched, this is once in a life time trip for us, so I want to minimise the risk as much as possible.

I've never had any card failures in the past and never even thought of it until I joined this site and started to see the odd thread mentioning it. Now I'm just paranoid :) :amstupid:
