will be buying a new mbp soon and i am going for the 2.3ghz model. prices for the memory and hd upgrade is extortionate on apple website.

can anyone recommend where i can get the memory and hd upgrade done? also what type (and is there a best type) of memory that i should install. want to upgrade to 8gb.

the 750gb apple drive is a 5400rpm unit and the 500gb is a 7200rpm. anyone know if i could upgrade to a 750gb 7200 rpm hd for the laptop?

Upgrading mbp HD and RAM is a really easy job to do yourself. With RAM you want DDR3 and 204 pin. The crucial sodimm seems the popular choice, £40 on amazon for 8GB. HD wise i'm not so familiar. I don't think there's much limitation on what can be installed. A solid-state drive will be much faster but are expensive and smaller capacity than most traditional disk-drives.

If you go to the Crucial website and enter the model details of your machine, it will automatically tell you what RAM upgrades are available for your Mac. They also do a range of SSD drives.
