Memory for holiday

Depends what res your camera is, how many shots fit on the card in the mode you shoot in (raw or Jpeg for example), how many shots you think you'll be taking. On a usual two week holiday I run through about 2k shots.

I'm off to Sri Lanka for two weeks and I know I get 188 raw shots on a 4Gb card, so at the moment I have 2 x 16gb(approx 760 shots), 6 x 4Gb cards and I'm thinking of buying some more :D

As biker says depends if your shooting raw or jpg I would think 8 gb is enough, I took 8 gb and had enough I shot in jpg, but get more you might need it, only you know how shutter happy you are LOL, where about are you staying, we stayed at Hotel Aguas Azules Varadero,

Biker where are you staying we stayed at a hotel called the Club Hotel Dolphin, Waikkal

We're going all over the place, travelling all over the country :D

As others have said, it depends on what you plan to shoot and whether you shoot raw or jpeg. You will get roughly the following number of shots with 6 gigs of memory:

standard jpeg - 2250 shots
Fine jpeg - 1500 shots
Raw - 400 shots

If you shoot jpeg, I imagine you would be fine. It's always a good idea to take a few minutes each evening to go through your shots and maybe delete the ones you know aren't going to make the grade. If you are shooting raw, then it would be prudent to purchase another 4 gig card or even two, especially given that they are less than £20 each (peanuts compared to the cost of the holiday).

I'm off to Kefalonia for two weeks in September and am taking 40 gigs worth of memory (I shoot raw) and a laptop, but then I'm being way over cautious. ;)

I'll be mostly shooting in RAW so i can play about with the shots in photoshop when i get back

That looks like a great adventure your going on! We're going to be swimming with dolphins :D

Thanks for the advice, i will probably buy another 4gb

Buy as much as you can afford to be honest as there is nothing worse than filling all your cards and then seeing the shot you have to have!

Byker - You will love Sri Lanka, I was there 5 years ago on a 1 week trip and would go back in an instant! Look forward to seeing your pictures when you get back (I only had my G5 at the time be nice to go back with an SLR!)
