Metering

I noticed a few days ago, metering needs to be adjusted for sky colour etc.

Any decent guides to metering around please?

A good book is "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson

Do you mean if the sky is overexposed it is lighter and more turquoise in colour and if it is correctly exposed it will be a nicer blue?

Yes! There was a thread here where the sky was too bright and it was put down to the metering?

The problem there was probably not one of exposure, but of brightness range, or dynamic range. Basically, the sky is so much brighter than the foregorund that the sensor can't handle it and adjusting the exposure won't change that. If you set it to make the sky darker, the foreground will go black.

The easiest way to sort that out is with a polarising filter, and they work really well on blue sky, but they do almost nothing on a bright but overcast day. Then you could try a grad ND filter (graduated, neutral density ie grey) which just darkens the top of the picture. Third option is to try HDR technique, High Dynamic Range, which invloves shooting several frames at different exposure levels and merging them in post processing.
